Oh, what a dream to own a wild horse - part of America's heritage.
Now that dream can come true. Adopt a gentled mustang. Halter broke and gentled. Ready for you to take home, continue training and be part of your family. Own a living legend today.
We adopted our first mustang in 2006. It was a cold, windy, snowy day so the turn out at the local BLM adoption was small. She was a bay roan with white sprinkled all over and a star on her forehead standing with a dozen or so other filly's shivering, wet and cold. The look on her face spoke out to us so we chose her but felt awful that we weren't in a position to adopt more at the time. We had recently bought land in Snowflake, AZ - so we had to name this two year old filly Snowflake.

Wild as a march hare, it was a wonderful experience to gain her trust, work training her and watch her thrive. We were hooked. To have a huge animal once in the wild become a loving best friend is an emotional feeling that is hard to explain and I wish everyone could feel themselves.

I spent one year as a BLM volunteer and learned a lot about the BLM. Addtionally we fostered some for the BLM and after the huge firestorm of 2007 in our town, helped located untitled mustangs to assist with their needs. I realized I would forever favor the mustang over domestic horses even with my great love for domestic horses of all breeds.
People started asking us for help with horses they could no longer keep whether it be following a disaster, medical or financial emergency, incompatability and sometimes horses headed to slaughter via an auction or feed-lot.
For several years now I have been a trainer through the Mustang Heritage Foundations TIP and gentle BLM mustangs and find adoptive homes for them. I know where all the mustangs are and stay in regular contact with the adopters as they have become great friends, you could say extended family to us.
Additionally we rescue and foster horses that through no fault of their own end up in situations where their owners can no longer keep them. Some come to us from other rescues, some we have saved from kill-buyers at local livestock auctions or feed-lots, some brought to us from owners whose circumstance make keeping the horse impossible. Once the level of training is assessed on these horses, they will be available for adoption. Check out our Gentled Adoptables page for current information about the horse and the adoption fee. We are not a 501c3.
Over the last several years we have successfully re-homed over 60 horses with people who have provided loving homes for these horses. We are in contact with the adopters and get regular updates including pictures on the horses and have created long-term relationships with both the adopters and horses. Many adopters have come to us for additional horses and referred friends and family for adoptable horses.
We have also built working relationships with other rescues throughout San Diego County, California and the country in an effort to deal with the unwanted horse issues we are all facing. I don't like the term "unwanted" because in many cases the horses are wanted but the families are unable to provide for them because of the economy and other personal situations.
